Michael Hayes Guitar/Vocals
Mike Hayes recently began a residency at B.B. Kings Blues Club Nashville. In the heart of the music mecca that is Nashville. His unmatched roots-style of guitar sets him apart from the average aspiring star playing in any local venue. Beyond anything else Mike’s authentic approach and innate talent for live performances convinces an audience of any size that he’s lived the blues he plays.
In the spring of 2015, Mike headlined the launch of the renowned Malibu Guitar Festival, performing alongside legends like Albert Lee, Richie Sambora, and Orianthi. Mike’s innate ability to capture the thrill of live performance and translate every emotive note to a recording has earned him film placement for his original song “I’m A Fool” as well as session work for TV and Film. Mike has also opened for acts including The Allman Brothers Band, Charlie Daniels, The Marshall Tucker Band, and Government Mule, Ben Harper, Stevie Wonder, Citizen Cope. etc.
Growing up listening to the likes of Robert Johnson, Eric Clapton, and Son House, the young Mike knew that Kirkwood, New York was only the starting place from which to begin his musical journey. By the age of 6, playing guitar became the primary focus of his life, and led to his consistent playing at a local church. After being offered a scholarship to the prestigious Canterbury School of Music, Mike discovered his destiny was one with the blues. After touring the East Coast for several years, at the age of 24, Mike made a significant move toward his future in Hollywood, California. His reputation as an artist grew exponentially during his residence at premier Los Angeles Venues, such as Piano Bar Hollywood, as one of the musicians shaping the soundtrack of Hollywood’s nightlife.
Mike has made the giant leap from the west coast to the south, have settled his family in Nashville, TN. Nashville is a springboard to endless possibilities for him to hone his craft as a songwriter and a natural performer. Mike has teamed up with Jeff Fleury, Matt Doctor, and Eric Robert to form Hayes and The Hustle, a band which has become known for its powerful live stage performance and has been called "Nashville's best live music performance".
Jeff Fleury - Bass Guitar
Jeff Fleury grew up in Saranac Lake, NY, the heart of the Adirondack Mountains. As an accomplished trumpet player in high school, Jeff taught himself how to play the bass guitar at age 17. After playing in his high school's stage swing band, Jeff went off to college where he mixed playing football and rugby, working full time as a hockey arena manager, and performing with various jazz, blues and rock bands. After college, Jeff began a 20+ year career in public service in Hanover, NH where he played with rock and country bands. Jeff moved to Nashville, TN in 2017 where he met up with Mike Hayes, Matt Doctor and Eric Robert and formed Hayes and The Hustle. Jeff's reputation for holding down the low end around Nashville has earned him the nickname "The Bassgroover". Jeff and his wife Carolyn have five children, aged 22 to 18. Jeff plays Ibanez guitars, both fretted and fretless.
Matt Doctor - Drums
Matt Doctor hails from Casper, Wyoming. Although he began playing the drums at age 11, Matt has been banging on all surfaces since he was crawling as an infant. Matt attended Casper College where he performed in several jazz groups as well as the Wyoming Symphony Orchestra. Matt then went on to McNally-Smith College of Music in St. Paul, MN where he studied percussion performance while continuing to play with multiple bands in and around the Twin Cities, including a performing for a cruise line. Matt's home base is now Nashville, TN where he is the keeper of the beat for Hayes and The Hustle as well as doing shows and studio recordings for bands all around Nashville and the U.S.
